Sometimes people are just too cool for school, as the younger generation say. Looking back at the violence with which the financial storms were raging in 2008 and 2009, it seems hard to credit that anybody was contemplating anything other than sheer survival. But one or two cool customers, known over the years to Minesite in one corporate guise or another, were doing more than just surviving. They were hatching new business. That’s right, in the eye of a storm, Focus Ventures was born.

Strictly speaking, the corporate entity was older. It had been knocking around as a shell company inside the Gold Group stable for a number of years. But the opportunity, and the shell, met at the height of the crisis, and the rest, as they say, is history.
