Company Statement
The principal activity of AIM-listed EMED Mining (Code:EMED) is to explore for and develop natural resources, with a focus on copper and gold.
The Company's region of interest spans from Europe to the Middle East which includes many past centres of mining and under-explored potential for many styles of mineralisation such as volcanogenic-hosted massive sulphide copper-gold, epithermal gold and porphyry copper-gold.
EMED Mining is focussed on two 100%-owned projects in Spain and Slovakia which hold the most potential to add major value.
The Rio Tinto Mine in Spain has substantial processing and other mine site infrastructure in place and a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource containing 940,000 tonnes of copper (205 million tonnes at 0.46% copper). Rio Tinto is a large copper mine acquired and now reorganised by EMED Mining. The Company is now focused on completing permitting, starting production and then optimising and expanding operations and mine life.
The Detva Gold Project in Slovakia has a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource of 1.1 million ounces of gold at the Biely Vrch Deposit - a discovery achieved by applying the latest exploration techniques in a prolific mining district. Further work towards developing this project is being undertaken following completion of a positive Scoping Study
EMED Mining also owns 24% of AIM-listed KEFI Minerals Plc, which is primarily exploring for gold and copper in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Regional Strategy
The Group's region of interest is the Mesozoic to Tertiary age tectonic belt that winds from Europe to the Middle East, extending for over 3,000 kilometres.
Significant recent political changes in the region provide opportunities as well as challenges. The lack of recent mine developments in many countries has caused lack of familiarity with the risks and rewards of mining. In this lack of empathy, EMED Mining sees both challenge and opportunity.
Current Operations
Projects
EMED Mining has now established a strong position in the following areas within its area of interest:
- EMED Mining continues to progress towards becoming a significant copper producer at the historic Rio Tinto Copper Mine in Spain - an exceptional opportunity to produce copper at a relatively low acquisition and start-up cost.
- Exploration in Slovakia is focussed on the recently recognised porphyry gold district where EMED Mining has discovered a porphyry gold deposit containing 1.1 million ounces of contained gold at the Biely Vrch Prospect. A study scoping the potential development of Biely Vrch has been completed and targeted gold production is 60,000 ounces per annum at a cash cost of $530/oz. Other prospects within EMED Mining's large 100%-owned licence areas in the Central Slovakian Volcanic Field will continue to be evaluated.
- Cyprus exploration areas are centred on the Troodos ophiolite complex. The targeted mineralisation style is volcanic-hosted massive sulphide copper deposits under shallow cover rocks, similar to the larger past Cyprus copper mines - three of which exceeded 10 million tonnes of ore running at grades between 1% and 4.5%.
- KEFI Minerals Plc was admitted to AIM in December 2006 and is 24%-owned by EMED Mining. KEFI Minerals owns carefully selected licence areas in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, as well as an extensive proprietary database of regional and specific exploration data providing a pipeline of further projects to evaluate.
